“Can you help me take a picture?”
Countless images are created by the millisecond, thanks to the proliferation of digital cameras. What is the impetus for taking a photo? This work explores the act of photography as performance, uncovering the relationship between the cameraman and his subject matter.

Elizabeth Lim

Artist Bio

Elizabeth Lim (b. 1992, Singapore) has grown up being exposed to the eclectic society of Singapore. She has been traveling since the age of 1, which may contribute to her strong interest in the interactions between culture and people from different walks of life.

Elizabeth enjoys creating works that are simple, straightforward, and depict an honest reflection of the Artist and her ideas. She enjoys traveling, several different sports, humour and honesty in Art, and being a Singaporean flâneur, which is also reflected in her works.

Her current works concern the mocking of the “bourgeois culture” around her through several installations and guerilla-type works. More importantly, she is investigating the endless potential and possibilities Art and its mediums have to offer her. She further develops herself, first as a human being then as an Artist, to uncover what she has to offer Art.

No Man’s Land

Artist Statement

Exploring the idea of connecting and leaving traces of self with strangers, the artist chooses a residual medium (chalk) to add a physical attribute to these path-crossing moments.

In contrast with the hustle and bustle of modern life, stillness as well as human interaction are incorporated into the performance. The silent and raw connection with a stranger is manifested through mark-making.

No Man’s Land reiterates the artist’s desire of forming connections with people as human beings, without the distraction of verbal interaction, and societal constraints, but also scrutinizes the possibility of there being a much greater fear of such an experience.

Wedding II

Artist Statement

“Wedding” is a performance art series about the entanglements of marriage. It works with the concept of a wedding ceremony. With all the rituals of weddings, one has to wonder of the significance of these rituals, and whether they rightly symbolise the life it begets. Whether be it children, just a life of commitment, or even just the basic day to day living as a married couple. The piece mostly works as a experiment with materials and space, but the concept is always kept in mind.

Artist Statement

Act By The Radio #2 seeks to interpret freedom of an individual in a developed society. This performance will be an improvisation from the previous debut piece. The objective is to explore the relationship between three elements: spoken words, objects, actions. I will create actions with objects that are relevant (either as representation or directly referring to it) to the context of the speeches while the recorded speeches are being played several times.
